Afraid? Panicking? Weak? God is Trustworthy

Psalm 56.1-13

Surrounded by the enemy and wondering if there would be any way of escape, overwhelmed by oppression, and prone to panic David trusted the Lord. Though the Philistines were a formidable foe, he knew the Lord was a greater victor. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you…This I know, that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise… in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me (Psalm 56.3, 9-11)? Our enemies may not be the Philistines in their pagan desire for superiority, but they can demonstrate similar characteristics and have the same vile intent. The enemies of our soul can be numerous, ranging from varied temptations striking the lusts of the flesh to the mean attacks of Satan; they can surround our thoughts and relentlessly place attacks upon us to sin; they can look to our areas of vulnerability and charge forward with an intensity which seems to be unstoppable; they can seek control of our mind and persuade us to surrender to their despicable designs. However intense the battle, however strong the enemy appears, may we stand firm as David and say with confidence, This I know, that God is for me. The only true and eternal God is for me; the Creator God and the God who sustains all He made is for me; the God who is greater than any enemy, more powerful than any thought, stronger than any oppressor, mightier than any temptation is for me. He will not fail; He will not be defeated.

Knowing our God, we have no need to fear; though there are attacks and even wounds from spiritual battles, none can snatch us out of His hand; in the midst of the heaviest combat, our God will not forsake us or desert us. Therefore, may we be filled with praise; may our voices proclaim His goodness; may our hearts overflow with thankfulness for His lovingkindness to us. May we never cease to trust in His gracious acts and abundant love which sustains us and will bring us to total victory, which will ultimately prove His great faithfulness.

Confident God is for us – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
