Just at the right time and in God’s sovereign design He sent His Son to save us. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons (Galatians 4.4-5). The fullness of time may have seemed late to some who were looking for Messiah’s coming; it may have seemed unlikely for those living in Jerusalem in the first century. For many, they weren’t even thinking about a coming Messiah. But this was God’s timing when all the events of the world were in line with His sovereign plan for Jesus to come, to faithfully fulfill His promise, to accomplish the long-predicted deliverance of man from Satan’s stronghold. Jesus, born of a woman; born in the flesh; born to live as those He created; born with the potential of all human frailties. Though fully God, Jesus became fully man that He might take upon Himself the fullness of sin’s penalty which we so rightly deserved. Jesus, born under the law, came to live under the requirements of the law. He lived in full submission to and in complete obedience to the law in order to be the perfectly pure sacrifice to fully atone for all our sin, to fully forgive us of all sin.
Jesus came to redeem us who were under the curse of the law. Unable to live in perfect obedience to the law because of sin, unable to meet the requirements of righteousness to be acceptable to the Holy God, we were lost and without hope; we were bound by sin and rightly facing due judgment because of sin; we were in our sinful selves unable to do anything to be presentable before the presence of God. But Jesus came to redeem us! Through His blood shed on the cross of Calvary, He totally cleansed us of all sin; through His atoning sacrifice He established us as righteous before our Sovereign Lord; through His love He brought us to the Father whereby we have been adopted as His children and secured for eternity as His own.
Saved at just the right time – we have much to be thankful for –
