Though being created by the eternal God, placed in the Garden of Eden, and having fellowship with the God, man chose sin. The words of the enemy became more compelling than the Words of God. The serpent first brought the question, Did God really say, “You must not eat from any tree in the Garden” (Genesis 3.1)? His deceitful tactic tempted the woman and brought question as to the truth of God’s words. The enemy has not changed in his crafty intentions to tempt us with doubt, challenging our memory, and questioning the truth of God’s Word. We can easily be tempted to ignore Scripture, to determine the principle doesn’t apply for us today, to rationalize justification for our actions, and conclude that ignoring a particular portion of Scripture will not make a difference. In a moment of weakness, sin and the immediate results of sin can look good.
May we not be deceived by the diabolical work of the enemy who delights in bringing doubt. Instead, may it be our strong commitment to firmly hold to God’s unchangeable truth. The enemy doesn’t easily relent. The serpent continued to tempt this first couple with error: You will not surely die… For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil (3.4-5). How easy it is to walk down the road of error. “How can something that looks so good be bad?” “What I have is good, but this will be better yet.” “If I don’t follow through with this desire I will be missing out on something wonderful.” In our vain rationale we can sadly dismiss truth; we can choose to ignore the pure for the defiled; we can give up the blessing of God to bask in the forbidden, only to later realize our foolishness in believing temptation and choosing sin. May we decide to stand firm, resisting all temptation; may our thinking be clear to recognize the enemy’s diabolical schemes. May it be our earnest desire and firm commitment to live in the fullness of God’s Truth, enjoying His blessings in the abundance of His grace and mercy.
Choosing to follow Truth – we have much to be thankful for today –
