Psalm 119.105-112
The Wod of God is rich in truth, providing the instructions we need for every step of our lives. The Psalmist, recognizing the dangers of life, the meanness of the enemy, and the fierceness of temptations to sin leaned upon the truth of God’s Word. He wrote: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119.105). God’s Word is a gift to every person, believer and unbeliever in Jesus Christ alike. In God’s Word we have been shown the way of eternal life through Jesus Christ. We are told of God’s redemptive plan given throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, of His love for sinners, of His plan for our salvation, and of His grace and mercy in forgiveness. In His Word we are given holy instructions to lead us through every situation of life. His Word is a lamp to our feet that we do not have to walk wandering in darkness, lost in the frustrations of sin, aimless through varied circumstances. His Word is a light to our path that we are able to see His power, His purpose, His desire for us as His redeemed children. In His Word we can know right from wrong, truth from error, hope from hopelessness, and joy from despair. In His Word we can know the purpose of life and be trained for godliness.
Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart (119.111). In God’s Word we can rest, having the assurance of His sovereign care and provisions. From God’s Word we are able to know and experience true joy. This is not momentary happiness which comes from the events of life and earthly successes. Rather, this is the joy of the heart in knowing we are the children of the Almighty, Eternal God, the Good Shepherd of our souls, the Provider of all our needs, and the giver of all-sufficient grace for every moment of life. This is the joy of resting in the Lord’s sovereign design, knowing all He does is good, and regardless of today’s scenario, to know He is working to accomplish what is for our good and to glorify His Name.
Having His Word in our hands – we have much to be thankful for –
