My Morning Desk
Author: Terry Burlingame
I served for a career as a United States Army Chaplain, followed by ten years as a senior pastor, and then a counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. My desire is to share the Word of God and its transforming power to help believers walk in truth.
Born in southern Indiana and living part of my childhood in North Dakota, our family settled in Holland, Michigan when I was twelve. I grew up in a nominal Christian home. Prior to High School graduation, I made a commitment to follow Jesus Christ and was compelled to follow the Lord in a life of service. My college plans changed and I attended a bible college in Grand Rapids and then graduated from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary. Anticipating pastoral ministry, the Lord gave me a passion to minister to young adults and opened the door for me to enter the military. During my military career I was able to complete a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Biblical Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA.
While serving as pastor, I was challenged to send an email to the congregation providing a short insight from my daily reading of Scriptures, and this was the beginning of writing “From my Morning Desk,” sent out daily by email. I now write weekly and post them on this site.
My desire in writing on this site is to share the truths of Scripture, the hope of God’s promises, and the knowledge of His sovereign design; to encourage others in the faith and to provide help in walking faithfully with our Lord. In addition to “From my Morning Desk,” other information is posted regarding Biblical insights, various book recommendations, and quotes of challenge and encouragement.
My wife, Barbara, and I have been married for over 50 years and have three adult children., eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Our first-born is severely impaired with autism, and also has a diagnosis of epilepsy; our second born is married and has six children; our third child, adopted at age seven, has two sons; one who is serving in the US Army.
One Scripture which has impacted my life is from 2 Peter 1.3-4: His divine power has granted to us (me) all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that in in the world because of sinful desires.
