Joshua 1.1-18
Biblical success is not defined by our wealth, by the number of our friends, by the size of our home, or the vehicle we drive; it is not obtained through academic achievements or professional gains; it does not come from our thoughts or personal satisfactions. Rather, Biblical success is known in doing the will of the Father and seeing the fulfillment of His promises. Joshua, being responsible to lead Israel across the Jordan River into the Promised Land, was commanded by God to stand firm in obedience and to not waver into his own presumptive ideas. The Lord said, Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go (Joshua 1.7). In faith and obedience Joshua would know success. Enemies would be defeated, the land would be obtained, and God would be glorified.
For us to understand and experience true success as the children of God it must begin with faith, believing God is who He says He is and believing His Word to be true. We must be strong and courageous. We must recognize true strength does not come from physical prowess, but rather from the ability to stand firm, in the midst of the most difficult circumstances or the strongest temptations, on the truth of God’s Word; to stand unashamed in believing God will fulfill all His promises. We must be courageous; having courage to face the enemy, boldness to move forward in faith, alert to not shy from attacks, and readiness to move forward knowing our Lord will give us victory. We must be willing to be absolutely and instantaneously obedient to our Lord in all things. Our obedience must be without doubting or wavering; it must be faithful, knowing He will always be faithful to us. In this we will know true success – having unwavering faith, strength to stand, courage to move forward, and an untiring resolve to obey.
Anticipating true success – we have much to be thankful for –
