The Lord’s love for us – our love for Him

Matthew 22.23-40

Our Lord loves us completely. There is nothing lacking in our Lord’s love. It never falls short; it never is absent; it never neglects. His love for us is consistent, constant, and unwavering; His love is always in harmony with His holy character and ever demonstrates His holy desire for us as His people; His love is absolutely perfect and fully faithful. His love is personal and ever filled with grace as He reaches out to us, filthy sinners, unworthy people, who are rightfully condemned to judgment because of sin. He reaches out to us in His sacrificial love to rescue us from the horrors of hell, from the clutches of the enemy, from the fires of judgment; He reaches out to us in His merciful love to forgive us of all sin, to draw us to Himself, to make us His very own children, and adopts us into His holy and eternal family. His love for us promises an eternal, unfading inheritance in His very presence which we will realize at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As Christians we are called to love our Lord. Our loving Him is not to be superficial, not only when convenient in our selfish schedules, or not when it is necessary on our calendars. Rather, our loving the Lord should be as fully and completely as He has loved us. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment (Matthew 22.37-38). Our love for the Lord our God is in response to His love for us. Our love should involve our entire being. Our love is not to be conditional on the events of life going the way we please or the substances of life satisfying our fleshly desires. Instead, our love for our Lord should be as faithful, as consistent, as full, and as unwavering as His love for us. Our love should be evidenced in our every desire, our every thought, our every intention, our every plan, our every word, and our every action. Our love should be filled with humility and awe, with adoration and appreciation, with praise and thankfulness.

Having been loved by the Lord – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
