Job 19.13-29
Job felt intensely alone and out of God’s hearing. All he had was stripped away from him; his brothers, relatives, and friends had all left him; his servants ignored him; his wife refused to comfort him; children despised him; his closest friends went against him with disgust; his body was ravaged in pain with nothing to relieve him of his continual torment. We consider Job and wonder how he could endure or speak. In considering the enormity of his pain and the immensity of life’s darkness, it is beyond our understanding.
Yet Job did not quit; he did not turn, roll over, or give up on life. He held on to hope. Perhaps thinking nothing would change for him while on earth, he knew that there would come a time he would again live; he knew this life was not the end and a day would come when the Lord would restore him. For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another (Job 19.25-27). He hoped in the eternal God, the glorious Savior, and was confident of a certain resurrection. May this be our hope, as we can be confident of our Lord’s glorious return. When He stands upon the earth we will know His powerful victory over all pain, disease, and death; we will see all the miserable acts of the enemy completely destroyed; we will observe the absence of all the awful trials, temptations, and consequences of sin. Our Lord will stand and reign victoriously and in perfect righteousness over all creation. Christ is our hope. Though we struggle in this life; though miseries abound, difficulties seem endless, and troubles and trials seem to never stop, a day is coming when all these will cease, we will be made new, and we will be in His presence, seeing our Lord reigning victorious over all, forever. Until then we hope is in His ever-present enabling and gracious care.
Looking forward to seeing Jesus – we have much to be thankful for –
