Life Built on the Rock

Matthew 7.12-29

Christ ended the Sermon on the Mount calling for a decision: “Where are you going to build your house?” Will it be on the rock or on sand? He wasn’t referring to a physical structure, but to our lives. Life built on a rock will stand secure; the one on the sand will crumble. Jesus said, Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock… It did not fall because it had been founded on the rock (Matthew 7.24-25). The rock is Jesus. In essence He asked if we would believe and follow Him, the Rock, or continue to seek our own ways and follow the deceitfulness of our own hearts, living on sand.

Built upon Christ, the Rock, we will not fail, we will not sink, we will not be swept away by the tides of the day, by the storms of the night, by the whims of our vain thinking and presuppositions. Christ is our Rock of salvation, who saves us from eternal damnation. He is our Rock of atonement, having offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for forgiveness of all our sin. He is the Rock of our justification, having declared us righteous before His Holy Father. He is our Rock of sanctification, who purifies us from all sin. He is the Rock of our defense as He stands for us at the right hand of the Throne of God the Father. He is our Rock of Truth, for in Him there is no falsehood or deceit. He is our Rock of refuge for in Him we are secure now and eternally. He is our Rock of hope, for in Him all His promises are certain. He is our Rock of purpose, for in Him we live to fulfill His sovereign design. He is our Rock of mercy, for He is ever showing us His lovingkindness. He is our Rock of Grace, as He ever gives us the exact opposite of what we rightly deserve. He is our Rock of love, ever caring for His as His own. He is our Rock of peace as we are able to rest in Him from all the trials and battles of the world. He is our Rock, our security, which will never be moved and will never change.

Knowing Jesus Christ as our Rock – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
