This Thanksgiving there may be multiple circumstances in life which have been or are difficult to face. We may feel we cannot move another step, that our lives are filled with too much stress, that the temptations of sin are too great to resist, that the consequences of sin have overcome us, but we must remember truth. Nothing we face in this life is too great for us to endure, is beyond God’s ability to enable us to persevere, is too deep for our Lord to uphold us, or too immense and greater than our Lord’s strength. In our Lord we can fully trust; in Him we can have full certainty of His gracious sustaining and His sovereign enabling. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desires (2 Peter 1.3-4).
Remembering truth leads to thankfulness. We are given all things that pertain to life and godliness. All things is all encompassing; nothing is wanting, left out, overlooked, ignored, or avoided. All things are given for us to endure the circumstances and events of life, that we might live well through the darkest hours and most joyful times of our days; that we might face every new day with the expectation of our Lord’s care and unique blessing. In all these things, our Lord will provide exactly what is needed for us to live godly, and not just survive, but to endure well; that we would endure in a manner pleasing to God and in full harmony with His Holy Word and divine will. His promises are sure, never to fail; His Word is certain. In Christ we are fully enabled to escape the attacks of the enemy and free from Satan’s ugly bondage; able to live in His freedom, power, love and grace, having full expectation He will ever fulfill His Word in our lives.
Thanks to God for my Redeemer,
Thanks for all Thou dost provide!
Thanks for times now but a mem’ry,
Thanks for Jesus by my side!
Thanks for pleasant, balmy springtime,
Thanks for dark and stormy fall!
Thanks for tears by now forgotten,
Thanks for peace within my soul!
Thanks for prayers that Thou hast answered,
Thanks for what Thou dost deny!
Thanks for storms that I have weathered,
Thanks for all Thou dost supply!
Thanks for pain, and thanks for pleasure,
Thanks for comfort in despair!
Thanks for grace that none can measure,
Thanks for love beyond compare!
Thanks for roses by the wayside,
Thanks for thorns their stems contain!
Thanks for home and thanks for fireside,
Thanks for hope, that sweet refrain!
Thanks for joy and thanks for sorrow,
Thanks for heav’nly peace with Thee!
Thanks for hope in the tomorrow,
Thanks through all eternity!
