Praising God’s Glorious Name

1 Chronicles 29.1-20

Knowing his death was near and that he would not build the Lord’s Temple, David arranged for his son Solomon to complete the work. The necessary supplies were gathered, the work had been distributed to the people, and David carefully charged and instructed Solomon. Knowing God’s covenant with David that his kingdom would be eternally established, the people had the expectation of God’s continued working among them and willingly gave for the work of the Lord’s Temple. They rejoiced in God’s abundant provisions as their commitment had been given with a whole heart. In response, David prayed. Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name (1 Chronicles 29.10-13).

Should not our response to the Lord be similar; should not our proclamation of praise be so clear? In considering our Lord’s complete redemptive work in our lives, in knowing He has a perfect sovereign design, in looking forward to our eternal hope, our hearts can be filled with praise. In knowing Jesus as our Savior, God as our Father, the Holy Spirit as having tabernacled within us, we can be filled with praise. In having His inspired Word, in knowing His majestic and glorious character, in seeing His gracious mercy, in experiencing His unconditional and unending love, we can be filled with praise. In recognizing His perfect rule, in receiving His ever good gifts, in being assured of His continual presence, we can be filled with praise. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name.

Able to praise our glorious Lord – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
