Acts 28.17-31
Paul never quit. Through varying difficulties, persecutions, imprisonment, storms, and rejection, he always remained bold for Christ. He knew Jesus had delivered him from the darkness of death; he knew the transformation of redemption, and was compelled to tell others; he knew the truth of God’s Word and the fulfillment of prophecies regarding Jesus and remained fervent to speak truth. While under guard in Rome, he used every opportunity to speak of Jesus Christ. He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance (Acts 28.30-31). Proclaiming the Gospel and telling others of Jesus Christ was his heart’s desire; he was ever compelled to teach the truth of Scriptures. Paul spoke “boldly,” having absolute confidence in this message, without fear of potential consequences.
What motivated Paul; what kept him from delving into despair because of his circumstances; what kept him standing when many others would shrink in fear? He knew Jesus; he knew His gracious love which had pulled him from the depths of sin and given him new life in Christ; he knew the difference Christ made in his life and longed to see others walk in truth. Motivated by love for Jesus and love for others, Paul longed to see people freed form sin’s bondage to worship Jesus Christ. Our current circumstances may hinder or limit us from doing all we would like to do. However, may we recognize our every situation as an opportunity to witness for our Savior. May we be bold in speech and consistent in the way we live, demonstrating our redemption. As we learn more of our Savior, may our love for Him grow; as our love for our Lord grows, may our love for others grow; may we then be bold, compelled to see others freed from the bondage of sin and walking in hope, in life, and in the truth of God’s Word.
Praying to be bold for Christ – we have much to be thankful for –
