The Sovereign Goodness of God

Daniel 2.17-30

God revealed Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and its interpretation to Daniel. Having sought the Lord’s understanding, Daniel immediately gave praise to the Lord. He did not take credit for this new knowledge; he did not forget he and his friends had asked God for wisdom; he did not run to inform the captain of the guard what he knew. Daniel stopped and prayed; he recognized the power and sovereignty of God; he thanked the Lord for revealing this dream and for saving his life. Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness and the light dwells with him. To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king’s matter (Daniel 2.20-23).

Throughout our daily lives we often do not recognize the source of our strength and wisdom; we neglect to reflect on the sovereign grace of God working within us; we fail to acknowledge His answer to our plea for help and continue on our way as if we were in charge. May we be intent to take time from the busyness of our lives, from the demands placed upon us, from the trappings of our schedules to reflect on the mercy, the greatness, the goodness, and the love of God graciously working in our lives. Our Lord has knowledge beyond our comprehension, and all we know has been given by Him; He has power beyond our ability to perceive and is working His perfect design in the intricacies of our lives, in the establishment and rule of kingdoms, and in the simplicities and complexities of life far from our capacity to grasp. He alone is God, worthy of all our praise, as He has revealed Himself to us and given to us all we need in this day.

Trusting our Sovereign Lord – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
