Jesus – the Cornerstone of our Faith

Acts 4.1-12

Peter and the disciples proclaimed the resurrection of Jesus Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, they saw God work in miraculous ways. The religious leaders of the day rejected their message, fearing the people would turn to Christ and deny them. They rejected Christ had risen from the dead; they rejected that the disciples were empowered by the Holy Spirit; they rejected the changes taking place in people. They rejected Christ, just as the Israelites throughout history rejected the prophets who proclaimed the Word of God. They rejected, just as people today reject the truth of Scripture. Peter boldly responded to their rejection, blindness, and obstinance: This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone (Ats 4.11).

Historically the “cornerstone” of a building held great significance. Generally, being the first stone placed it became a guide for an entire building. By it the builders ensured the entire structure was square and stable, was built straight and solid. The Jewish leaders were to lead the people in such a manner: in truth, righteousness, and obedience to God’s commands. However, they failed as they exalted themselves and held people captive by rules and regulations. They rejected Jesus, who became the cornerstone of our faith. But their rejection did not change God’s design. This Jesus has become our cornerstone. On this Jesus is our faith built. On this Jesus is our redemption, as we have been purchased by His blood shed on the Cross of Calvary; on Him we have full atonement, the forgiveness of all sin; on Him is the foundation for all we believe, based on His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension to glory; on Him is our hope for our coming resurrection and translation into His glorious presence. This Jesus is our solid foundation for all faith, our security for every trial, and our guide for every moment. This Jesus is our Savior and Lord.

Knowing this Jesus – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
