God Spoke Through Jesus

Hebrews 1.1-14

God has spoken. Do we listen? Are we ready to listen; do we want to listen? Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets (Hebrews 1.1). Since the creation of the world God has been speaking. He spoke to Adam and Eve in the Garden; He spoke to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; He spoke to Moses and to Joshua; He spoke through signs and visions; He spoke to Saul, David, and Solomon; He spoke through the many prophets. But so often the people did not listen. They chose to follow the inclinations of their own hearts and choose paths to the liking of their sinful desires and fleshly enticements. Busy in their own activities, they did not want to listen and follow the Lord. We read of their disobedience and wonder how they could be so stubborn, so insolently rebellious in their actions, how they could turn against the Lord of Glory and the God of all creation.

Then we must ask the question, do we listen, or do we turn a deaf ear to follow our selfish desires and seek to fulfil unsatisfying goals. God clearly spoke, and He spoke for us to intently hear. But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world (1.2). God spoke through His Son, and Jesus spoke with His life as He lived among us, as He was with people throughout Israel; He spoke with His words as He taught God’s Word and proclaimed the Kingdom of Heaven; Jesus spoke as He willingly stood an unjust trial, was condemned, and hung upon the cross for our salvation; He spoke as He rose from the dead and as He ascended to heaven, giving us victory over all sin. Through Jesus Christ who created and sustains all things, through Him who was, who is, and who is to come, God has clearly spoken. Today, may we desire to intently listen to Him through the pages of Scripture, walking in harmony with Him, and rejoicing in our redemption.

Given the Word of God – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
