The Faithfulness of God to Uphold Us

1 Corinthians 1.1-10

Paul began his letter to the Corinthian believers with hope, reminding them of God’s grace having effectually worked in their lives, bringing them salvation. They were called, redeemed, and gifted by God, and were now being sanctified by God. Paul also gives them the assurance that the Lord will ever be faithful to uphold them: “Who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1.8-9). This is true for every believer; this is our Lord working in and through us from beginning to end, demonstrating His unwavering and unfailing faithfulness.

Our Lord will sustain us. No matter the depth of the trials we face, the horror of life situations, or the misery of daily experiences, our Lord is able to sustain us, keep us, and hold us tightly so that we do not fall, so that we do not succumb to the enemy’s intentions of defeat and destruction. Having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, He will not let us be consumed again by Satan but rather will give us everything we need to stand firm. Our Lord will present us guiltless before the Father, not because of our vain attempts at works of righteousness but rather because of the blood of Christ shed for us on the Cross of Calvary. Even though we still struggle in this flesh with the desires of sin, we are seen fully covered by the blood and fully clothed in the righteousness of our Lord. We have been called into the “fellowship of His Son;” we are brought into a unique relationship with Him by whom we have been adopted into the family of God, called the children of God with Christ being our elder brother, and share with Him all the inheritance of glory. May we realize the depth of this relationship and the loving work of God our Heavenly Father as He has bestowed on us the riches of His eternal grace. We can joy in all these things, resting in this truth, because “God is faithful!”

Knowing God is faithful – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
