Romans 8.26-39
Romans 8.28 is a familiar passage of Scripture. Often quoted, it can be one of encouragement or discouragement; people can use it with little thought or very carefully while considering the sovereign design of God. When taking time to think about its content, it is powerful for every step and stage of the believer’s life. In writing to the church in Rome, Paul knew the believers were facing difficulties; he knew the trials and adversities would leave them questioning and tired. Paul wrote to encourage them to hold on in every situation, to persevere, knowing God would provide everything they needed, that the Spirit of God would be praying for them, and that the Lord Almighty would never Forget or abandon them.
And we know – we can have absolute confidence in the truth of God’s Word. That for those who love God (we love Him because He first loved us; 1 John 4.19) – because in His love, mercy, and grace He saved us, cleansed us with the blood of Christ, drew us to Himself, and made us His own; He gave us the gift of faith, and the resolve to believe and trust Him. In all things – nothing excluded, every aspect of our lives at all times. Work together – intricately, undeniably, and sovereignly by the hand of God and in the will of God, by the power of God and determination of God. For good – never for evil, regardless of the situation, the difficulty, the trial, the sadness, or the joyfulness at hand. For those who are called – by the Spirit of God, according to the will of God, through the work of Jesus Christ. According to his purpose – which is always good and will never fail or change.
Knowing this, we can therefore rest in the Lord our Savior, regardless of today’s challenges or the world’s events. We can move forward, knowing our Lord reigns supreme, knowing He will ever fulfill His Word in our lives, knowing that nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8.39).
Knowing God and His Truth – we have much to be thankful for –
