Proverbs 6.16-23
The Word of God, the Bible, the Holy Scriptures is the most important book ever published. It was written by men who were directed by the Holy Spirit of God. Every word is exactly as God intended to convey who He is, who we are, and His powerful plan of redemption. His Word is given to us that we might know how to live and to understand the miserable battle with sin and the great enemy Satan. God’s Word is not meant to be idle on a shelf, only referenced in needy times, or opened only when in want. God’s Word is meant to be known, to be understood, to lead us to Christ, and to be a guide for the path of life. Solomon wrote regarding what should be our attitude to the Scriptures. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck when you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you. For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life (Proverbs 6.21-23).
Bind them on your heart – may they be an integral part of who we are. Tie them around your neck – may they be remembered in all we do through every moment of every day. God’s Word provides for us wisdom in what we do, direction in where we should go, and help in the decisions we make. It may not give specific direction in some instances, but the Lord provides the principles needed to make decisions which will lead us righteously and in harmony with His holy will. His Word is a lamp to lead us in the darkness of our days, to bring understanding when confusion exists and hope when darkness seems overwhelming. His Word is a light to teach us truth, to reveal our sinfulness and God’s redemptive love through Jesus Christ, to reveal sin and free us from the bondage of sin. His Word also disciplines us, highlighting our wrong and sinful choices and redirecting us to walk in righteousness, filling us with His joy and peace.
The Word of God:
The law of the LORD is perfect; reviving the soul;
the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them is your servant warned,
in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 19.7-11
Having God’s Word – we have much to be thankful for –
