Exodus 15.1-18
The ten plagues were completed. Pharaoh, anguishing over the loss of his firstborn, summoned Moses to take the people out of Egypt. Having been protected from death by the blood of the Passover Lamb, the Israelites began their journey out of bondage. Facing the Red Sea and being hunted by the ferocious chariots of a hardened Pharaoh, the Israelites thought they were caught. The Lord magnificently worked in splitting the waters and providing dry land for their passageway. Pursued by the Egyptian forces, the Lord tangled their chariot wheels in mud, slowed their progress, and then violently brought the waters crashing over them. The people of Israel were safe; they were delivered from the hands of Pharaoh. In joyful response to the Lord, the people sang; they gave God all credit for their deliverance; they rejoiced in His power and holiness, in His love and supremacy. “I will sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously, the horse and rider He has thrown into the sea. The LORD is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him… Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power, your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy” (Exodus 15.1-2, 6).
This is our Lord who has not changed; this is our God who continues to demonstrate His power over our great enemy, Satan; this is our Savior who delivers us from bondage and draws us to Himself; this is our Sovereign who reigns supreme over all creation and is controlled by none. We are His, not because of who we are or what we have done. We are His because of His unending love for us, of His unfailing mercy, of His gracious kindness to make us His own, and His supreme power to keep us
today and eternally. Today, may we exalt our Lord, giving Him all praise, filled with joy in our deliverance from sin’s curse, and resting secure in our hope in Christ our Savior.
Delivered from bondage – we have much to be thankful for –
