On Holy Ground

Exodus 3.1 -12

Though they had enjoyed a time of prosperity and favor in Egypt, the people of Israel had been relegated to slavery. The Lord saw their distress and heard their cry for help and deliverance. After 400 years of living in a foreign land, the Lord was about to deliver them. He called Moses, the unsuspecting Israelite who had been raised by Pharoah’s daughter, but now lived in exile in Midian, to use him as His human instrument. God called to Moses out of the burning bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground” (Exodus 3.5). The Lord’s call to Moses was clear as He spoke from a burning bush that did not disintegrate. He chose Moses for a mission. However, before Moses could proceed he first needed to understand who God was; he needed to be in awe of the power and authority of God, of the irresistible call he had received; he needed to recognize the Lord was holy and he was standing in His Holy presence.

This place was holy  because the Lord was there; holy because God was speaking; holy because God was calling him and instructing him how to live and what to do; holy as the Lord assured him of victory, of  His continual presence and the certainty of His promises. May we, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, recognize that every time we open the Word of God we are in the holy presence of our Lord. May we know He is speaking to us, instructing us, assuring us of His presence with us and the fulfillment of His promises to us. The Lord called us for purpose and His desire is to use us in His great mission. Our walk will be hesitant unless we are ever reminded that we represent the Holy Lord. And may we also remember, as His children, we have been indwelt by His Holy Spirit, and He is ever with us, in every moment and every situation of our lives. Therefore, wherever we are and whatever we do, we are in His presence and are standing on holy ground.

In the presence of our Holy Lord – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
