Jesus – Savior

Matthew 1.18-25
For many people, they did not think about being steeped in sin; they did not consider their sinfulness to be a problem; they did not think about condemnation because of sin. They were busy living, doing what they wanted to do, what pleased them, and what was necessary to put bread on the table. For others, they religiously complied with the Law of God, hopeful their obedience would win His favor; others followed the religious requirements, giving little thought to its purpose. Some looked for a savior to come and deliver them from bondage; others thought little about the future. These responses are similar for many today. However, regardless what people thought then, or think now, all are condemned because of sin; all are lost without a Savior. Because of God’s gracious love and mercy, all was about to change; many would have their eyes opened to their true sinfulness, to their true need, and to the One and Only Savior. The remarkable birth of Christ was coming. “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1.20-21).
Jesus, alone, is able to save us from sin; He alone is able to redeem us from our deserved destination of hell; He alone is able to rescue us as lost and without hope in a dying world. Jesus alone is able to give us purpose, a reason to live, and a hope for eternity; He alone is able to give us understanding in the midst of confusion, and clarity when life does not seem to make sense; He alone is able to give us peace when in despair, and rest in the midst of weariness. Though we may not always understand the depth of our sinfulness, our Lord did; He saw us as we were and chose to make it possible for us to be called His eternal children. Today, may we see ourselves with clear vision and humbly, lovingly respond with true worship for Jesus has come!

Knowing Jesus our Savior – we have much to be thankful for –
Terry
