My sheep hear my voice

John 10.22-38

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, I give them eternal life and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand (John 10.27-29). There are four great truths in this passage which bring solid encouragement to the believer. First, the Lord calls those who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior, my sheep. We belong to Him. The Lord purchased us through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, redeemed us from our sin-infested lives and the clutch of Satan, rescued us from certain judgment, and made us His own. We have been saved for purpose and covered with His everlasting love. Second, as His sheep, we hear his voice and follow Him. The Lord has graciously given us ears to hear the Lord’s voice, our Great Shepherd. He has given us His Word as His voice and He leads us by His Spirit, enabling us to follow Him through every season and moment of life. We cannot do this alone; it is all through the Lord’s working in our lives.

Third, as His purchased sheep, the Lord gives to us eternal life. Not only are we redeemed today, but our redemption leads us to eternal life in His holy presence. There is more to life than the days we have numbered on the earth; this is only the beginning. In Christ we have hope as we look forward to an eternity in His holy presence, having been rescued from the judgment of eternal hell. Fourth, no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. We are secure in Christ. There is no person, no entity, no evil deed of the enemy that is able to take us from the hands of the Father and the Son. Regardless of the events of our days, the trials we face, the troubles we endure, the battles we encounter, we are safe in Christ. We are His sheep, purchased by our Great Shepherd, given eternal life through the sacrifice of Christ by which we are fully forgiven of all sin and eternally secure in Christ

Belonging to our Shepherd, Jesus – we have much to be thankful for –
