David had prepared an appropriate tent and brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem in a time of great rejoicing. He appointed certain Levites to minister before the Ark, to give praise and thanksgiving; to exalt the Lord for the great work He had done among His people; to sing in acknowledgement of the Lord, as God over all. “Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually” (1 Chronicles 16.8-11)! Their hearts and voices were directed to the Lord; filled with joy, they placed themselves in submission before His holy Throne.
This song of thankfulness is good for us to sing and pray today. May we give thanks to Him, recognizing His great work among us; remembering how He brought us out of the bondage of sin through the redemptive work of His Son; remembering His enabling us to live pleasing to Him; remembering the hope we have for today, as well as for all eternity; remembering how He provides for every one of our needs as He knows is best for us. May we unashamedly tell of His gracious mercy and love to others; may we never be silent but speak expectantly of His saving grace. May we glory in His holy name, not in ourselves or in any of our accomplishments; rather, may we recognize that all we are and all we have has been given to us by His gracious hand. May we rejoice in Him, knowing He has revealed Himself to us, knowing He is ever faithful and will never change. May we come before Him, seeking His strength, knowing He will always be with us, fulfilling His promise to never leave us or forsake us. May we never forget the greatness of our Lord, His promises to us, and the great works He has done before us and for us, His people.
Rejoicing in our Lord – we have much to be thankful for –
