We like security; we like knowing our world will have consistency and stability. We can do our part in working diligently for security, long for it, plan on it, and orchestrate the events of our lives trying to assure ourselves of it. We want financial security – knowing we will have sufficient funds to meet our expenses and provide for our wants; we want relational security – knowing those we love will continue in our lives; we want emotional security – having confidence and enjoyment in varying situations. However, in a moment all our securities can crumble; unexpected and unwanted circumstances can happen that will change the course of our lives, seemingly rocking our future and hope, leaving us feeling alone and abandoned.
What does our Lord want for us? To have the fullness of our security in Him, regardless of circumstances. He will not, does not, and never will change; He will remain ever faithful in all He is and in all He does, always doing what is best for us. “He will not let your foot be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121.3-4). Today we can rest in His absolute care. He is not surprised with the events of our lives or with the sudden tragedies which change the face of our future. Whether it is the unexpected depletion of financial resources, the loss of a loved one, or the situation that leaves us feeling alone, abandoned, or confused, our Lord is not caught off guard. “He will not let your foot be moved” – for He will ever be our foundation, holding us, and giving us all the strength we need to not fall and the sufficiency of His grace to keep moving forward. The Lord is our keeper – in Him we are safe and secure, as He accomplishes His great purpose in our lives. “He will not slumber” – our Lord never forgets His promise to keep us; He will not neglect us as His own. Secure in Jesus Christ, our greatest need is fully met in His gift of salvation; we are secure in this day and secure for eternity, ever kept securely by Him.
Secure in Christ our Savior – we have much to be thankful for –
