Jesus was born with a defined purpose. In God’s sovereign plan each person is uniquely designed by God for purpose. Christ’s purpose was prophesied from the beginning, described by prophets through time; His purpose was highlighted to Zechariah, Elisabeth, Mary, and Joseph before His birth; His purpose was announced to shepherds by an angel: “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people for unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2.10-11). His purpose was recognized by “a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased’” (2.13-14)! His purpose was verified by Simeon at the temple: “my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,” (2.30-32).
The purpose of the life of Jesus Christ: He came; God Incarnate, Immanuel – God with us, to be our Savior. Only He could provide the perfect sacrifice of Himself to cleanse us of all sin; only through His shed blood was it possible for us to be redeemed from the clutches of Satan and brought into the family of the Eternal God.; only through His resurrection can we be free from the deadness of sin and have new life. Jesus, the promised Messiah, prophesied throughout Scripture to rescue His people from bondage and establish an eternal kingdom of righteousness. Because He is the Eternal God Incarnate, there is none other we should bow before; He is the One who rightly deserves all our allegiance and praise; He is the One who will lead us rightly, provide for us completely, and satisfy us wholly. Jesus fully fulfilled His purpose. Might our desire be to fulfill His purpose for us: to know Jesus as our Savior and Lord, to live in obedience before Him and glorify Him in all things, to be content and thankful in the life He has given us, and to anticipate eternity in His holy presence.
