Psalm 25.1-22

In difficult times, facing trouble and affliction, feeling lonely and having the heaviness of heart, aware of his own inadequacies and failures, and being the target of his enemies, David prays. Knowing his weakness to endure all which is before him, knowing his lack of wisdom to make decisions which will lead to victory, David prays; he calls out to the Lord for help. “Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long” (Psalm 25.4-5). He had an underlying confidence and trust that the Lord would provide him with exactly what was needed and would lead and protect him. Rather than run in fear, hide in desperation, or bemoan his struggles, David leaned upon the Savior to direct him when, from a natural perspective, all seemed dark and hopeless.

This can be our prayer today. Regardless of what we may be facing, regardless of the plight of our lives, we can anticipate and have confident hope in our Lord, in His care and provision for us in our every need. May we pray “to know His ways,” for His ways are always perfect, will always lead us rightly, and will always end up in righteousness; they are filled with resources from His holy throne room to provide us with the strength, wisdom, and endurance we need for every situation of our lives. May we pray He would “teach us His paths,” that we do not wander into other territory which may seem enticing, that we do not waver from His design for our lives. May we pray He would “lead” us in His truth, teaching us what we need to know; to pray to understand His truth and how to live it in our daily lives; to not be deceived by the lies of the enemy or the lusts of the flesh, but to walk with Christ at all times. Our confidence comes in the Lord being our God and our salvation, redeemed by His grace and kept by His love. In Him alone is our hope and confidence.

Waiting upon our Lord – we have much to be thankful for –
