Israel had been rebellious, forgetting the grace and love of the Lord; He brought them out of the land of captivity and established them in the land of promise. However, even though they had neglected the Lord to follow after their own selfish passions, the Lord, in His covenantal love, would never forget them; though they had walked into sinful behaviors, He would not fully reject them. Israel would be punished; they would know His displeasure and wrath. But, they would not be utterly rejected. There was hope for them if they would repent and return to the Lord and His commands. “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me” (Isaiah 49.15-16). There is coming a day when Israel will again submit to the Lord and will know His gracious favor in the coming Kingdom; they will not be forgotten; they are forever engraved on the palm of His loving hand.
What a wonderful principle for the believer in understanding the character of God; in knowing His loving kindness to those He has redeemed through the blood of Jesus Christ. We will not be forgotten; we will not be cast out of His Kingdom. Though we may sin, and at times rebel and neglect the grace of God which has saved us, we are not without hope. Coming to Him in faith, He will hear us; coming to Him in repentance, He will forgive us. The blood of Christ will not be removed; having been washed fully clean and accepted in Christ, we are secure as His child. May we now be compelled, not to ignore our sinful actions, but rather to seek freedom from all enticing sin; to be holy as He is holy; to live in a manner that pleases Him and brings glory to His Name; to live in anticipation of the day when Jesus returns and calls us to our eternal home and into His loving presence.
Never to be forgotten – we have much to be thankful for –
