Jude 1-25

A doxology is a hymn of praise, or words which ascribe glory to God; it brings focus to God’s holy character, drawing our undivided attention to His magnificent Name and Throne. Jude knew believers would face opposition; he knew wicked people would creep into the church to defile the Word of God, distort the Truth, seek to persuade people to follow their deceitful lies, and bring severe persecution to those not denying the Lord Jesus. Jude succinctly exhorted believers to not give up, to not waver in faith, to strand strong in righteousness, and to earnestly contend for the faith. He concluded his short letter with a doxology of hope, with the clear reminder that our Lord is able to enable His own to withstand all resistance. “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time now and forever. Amen” (Jude 24-25).

This is our hope, and may we hold tightly to this truth that our Lord is able to “keep us from stumbling,” from the enticement of temptation, from choosing sin and the deceitful schemes of the enemy; He is able to strengthen us, uphold us, and enable us to be victorious over every onslaught of evil intended to tear us away from the truth. As He keeps us now, we rest in the hope that there is coming a day when our Lord will present us absolutely “blameless before the presence of his glory.” He will perfect us in bringing the culmination of our redemption; He will free us from all sin and its ugly bondage to present us faultless in His holy presence. As we wait that day, may we unashamedly and unequivocally give all praise to our gracious and loving Lord, who shares His sovereignty with none other, is the only true God, and is worthy of all our affection, adoration, and praise.

Anticipating Christ’s coming – we have much to be thankful for –
